What are Invoice Addenda in Electronic Invoicing?

An addendum is an optional element incorporated into the Digital Tax Receipt (CFDI) in its XML format. This element allows including additional information for specific use by the requester, whether the issuer or receiver of the tax receipt.

Generally an addendum serves the purpose of internal process control, which can be commercial, administrative or operational, in order to improve CFDI administration. Information contained in the addendum is not part of the receipt original string, it is merely additional commercial information that facilitates invoicing processes between companies.

Addenda are especially important for suppliers of large retail, manufacturing or public sector companies, since these organizations have implemented automated accounts payable systems that require specific structured information to correctly process received invoices, perform accounting reconciliations and efficiently validate commercial operations.
